Sunday, July 13, 2014 — In conjunction with our call-for-entry exhibit and month-long celebration The Heart of Steinbeck CountryCarmel Visual Arts, with cooperation of the Museum of Monterey and the California Art Club, is hosting a “Quick-draw” paint-out / sculpt-out on Sunday, July 13th, 2014.  Come to the beautiful Monterey harbor waterfront to paint scenes made famous in the John Steinbeck novels “Cannery Row” and its sequel “Sweet Thursday.” The books are set along Ocean View Avenue where Ed (Doc) Ricketts’ lab was located and characters Mack and the boys wandered the streets. Renamed Cannery Row in 1958, the avenue continues until you get to the Coast Guard Pier, and Old Fisherman’s wharf is only 1/2 a mile north. There continues to be an active fishing community and marina, with additional seafood restaurants and gift stores, there are plenty of opportunities to set your creative spirit free.
